Welcome

Welcome to the website of Lighting Nigeria! We hope you will enjoy the content and keep returning once in a while. Originally the website of Lighting Nigeria was set up to promote the project  Solar Energy Nsukka, which we are currently performing. In addition, we would like to use this website to open up discussions on renewable energy use for developing countries and hopefully come up with innovative and creative solutions to tackle problems that are related to a lack of electricity. The world population is currently 6.7 billion and there are still 1.6 billion people without access to electricity, which is 24% of the total population.

Solar Energy Nsukka
In summer 2009 preparations were done to perform a solar energy project in Nigeria, currently named ‘Solar Energy Nsukka’. The project is implemented to demonstrate the possibilities and advantages of using renewable energy in Nigeria, it will be performed at the St. Cyprian’s Special Science School. To make sure the project is durable it consists of 4 objectives:

  1. Installation of a solar system
  2. Train the trainers
  3. Feasibility study and business model
  4. Conference

The project is performed by Delft University of Technology and University of Nigeria Nsukka in cooperation with the St. Cyprian Special Science School, where the solar system installation will take  place. The installation and training take place in May 2011, the presentation of the study and the conference are expected in July 2011. More about this project can be read in Solar Energy Nsukka.
